Quito (English version)

After a 20 hours trip we finally arrived in Quito. The communication we had by e-mail with the hostal we booked only resulted in confusion. We were convinced that the Fawlty Towers would never be at the airport to pick us up. It was a nice surprice to see the sign mentionning 'Kristof Sucaet'. A hectic 20 minutes, through Quito's rush hour we arrived at our final destination. We spend 2 days in Quito visiting both the colonial old town and the new town. The old town has lots of nice squares and beautiful buildings, while the new town is full with hotels, bars and restaurants.
We made an excursion to the crater of the volcan Pilulahua, where we were the only two gringo's to descend into the crater. Climbing out of the crater at an altitude of 3000 m was pfft...
We also visited the monument at the equator on a Sunday afternoon when local singers are rocking the equator ecuadorian style.
